Welcome to the Strength for the Small Church Blog
Welcome to the Strength for the Small Church blog. I am grateful that you are here, and I hope this becomes a place you return to often for encouragement, practical help, honest conversation, and renewed strength for the work God has called you to do. Strength for the Small Church was born from a simple but deeply held conviction that no pastor should have to lead alone. Across America, thousands of faithful pastors and leaders are serving congregations that may never be large, may never have big budgets, and may never receive much public attention. Yet these churches are preaching the gospel, caring for families, serving communities, discipling believers, and standing as a witness for Christ in places that desperately need them. We believe these pastors matter, these leaders matter, and these churches matter.
This blog will talk honestly about the real world of small church ministry. We will address the pressures that pastors carry, including discouragement, loneliness, financial limitations, leadership challenges, volunteer shortages, family strain, and the constant responsibility of caring for everyone else while often having no one who is intentionally caring for them. We will also talk about the spiritual and emotional health of pastors, because a church cannot remain healthy for long when its leader is exhausted, wounded, isolated, or living in survival mode. There will be encouragement for difficult seasons, reminders of God’s faithfulness, practical ways to stay strong, and conversations about how pastors can lead with clarity, wisdom, courage, and a renewed sense of calling.
We will also focus on equipping leaders throughout the entire church. Healthy ministry cannot rest on the shoulders of one pastor alone. Churches need prepared board members, elders, council members, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, worship teams, ushers, ministry directors, volunteers, and emerging leaders who understand both their responsibility and their calling. This blog will provide teaching, ideas, tools, and resources that can help churches develop people, build stronger teams, improve communication, handle conflict, organize ministry, and create a culture where more people are equipped to serve. Our goal is not to import complicated systems designed for large churches, but to offer practical guidance that works in the everyday reality of smaller congregations.
Another major focus will be strengthening churches. We are not obsessed with numbers, and we do not believe the size of a church determines its value, health, or effectiveness. Our desire is to help churches become spiritually healthy, financially responsible, well led, outward focused, and prepared to serve their communities with excellence. We will talk about church health, vision, discipleship, outreach, leadership development, pastoral care, stewardship, volunteer ministry, communication, and the steps churches can take to move from survival mode toward intentional impact. Growth may come as health develops, but our first goal is not to make churches bigger. Our goal is to help them become stronger, healthier, and more faithful to the mission God has given them.
You will also hear stories from pastors and churches, learn about available coaching and training opportunities, and receive updates about the ministry of Strength for the Small Church. We will share new resources, leadership tools, assessments, podcast episodes, webinars, roundtables, and opportunities for pastors and church leaders to connect with others who understand their world. We will also talk about how individuals, churches, and businesses can partner with us to provide coaching, training, encouragement, and resources to churches that may not be able to afford the help they need. We consider ourselves missionaries to Small Church America, and we want to stand beside faithful leaders for the long journey, not simply offer a quick word and disappear.
